This web site serves as both a professional resume, and a warehouse of thoughts and ideas picked up along the way.
I have worked with computers for my entire professional career of 28 years; if this is any sign of how long that means, I have actually used punched paper tape machines (though not recently). Many things have changed, but the skills needed to successfully complete a project are the same. I have the ability to comprehend what clients need, the skill to do the programming, and the personality to guide the staff and install the application, to insure a successful conclusion.
As a contract programmer, for over 15 years, I have worked with a huge variety of clients and different businesses, which offers a perspective on solving problems that isn't learned in school.
I am currently involved with a major health insurance organization. My role has been to design, write, implement, and run a monthly billing system, where the Association's member companies are invoiced for a variety of services. The total bills per month, range between $6.5 and $8 million. This project began in 1998, and was in use starting January 1999. The system was written with Powerbuilder, using a MSSQL 2000 Database.
It also uses a number of other features in Microsoft products, such as creating Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and automatic emails for sending files to customers—these procedures use Visual Basic.
